Peppermint Stick Cupcakes

  • Basic white cake recipe of your choice
  • Basic white frosting
  • Red food paste (I use Wiltons®)
  • Decorator bag & tip of choice
  • 1-2 crushed candy canes
  • Paper Holiday baking cups
  •  Food safe paint brush or cotton swabs

  • Recipe;
    Oven to 350°F - 176°C

  • Make your cake batter
  • Put about ¾ cup in separate bowl & color it red
  • Place about a 2TBS of plain white batter in each paper cup
  • Place about a teaspoonful of red batter on top
  • Top with remaining white batter till each cup is ¾ full
  • Bake for about 18 - 20 minutes or till toothpick comes clean
  • Cool completely
  • Crush candy canes, use a Ziploc® bag or wax paper
  • Put tip of choice into your bag, turn down top. Using the paint brush or swab, add 3 lines of red food paste to the inside of the bag, kinda spaced evenly. Fill bag with frosting, pull up the fold & twist top so frosting gets to tip
  • Frost each cupcake & sprinkle with crushed candy while still moist
  • You could also just frost with a knife and use a toothpick dipped in food color to add the swirls
  • Makes a nice 13x9 cake as well
